Now with more cowbell!

OK, here's the plan. Each time this site is updated, I will add a link to a site that I think you should see. Usually these websites are places I visit often myself. I hope you enjoy. This update's newbie:
Craig's List - Easier to use and less intimidating than Ebay, Craig's List is your online garage sale. You can generally find anything you could want here. Got something to sell? Chances are there's someone looking for just that thing. I found three roommates on CL, and a place to live when I moved out of my apartment. I also sold an elliptical machine and two of my roommate's scooters. Also, any sort of freaky sex you would want. Need to lick a boot? Craig's list probably has someone itching to have their boot licked. I'm not kidding.
Phone Scoop - Here's one I don't have yet. I've been visiting Phone Scoop since I worked at Sprint. It's a great place to see all the new wireless phones that are coming out, as well as read user reviews. I get my next phone sometime after next June, when my 18 month discount with Sprint comes around again. I'm talking 2 megapixel camera phone, RV-DO high speed internet, Bluetooth, SD expansion slot... Hopefully Sanyo will come up with at least those things before July rolls around, or I'll be forced to get another brand. And won't it be funny to look at that description five years from now and say "That's what I was lusting after back then? How quaint!"
Genesis Scientific - Ok, will somebody please check out this site and tell me if it's all bullshit or not? I've been checking back on this site for a few years now (lets say three), and it's continually updated, and it seems like at least they believe what they're saying... but they're claiming to have already invented a machine that creates electricity from water. It's called the Edison Device. The thing of it is, I haven't heard one peep about this from any other source. Not CNN, not Reuters, not anything! You physicists out there reading this (do any physicists read this site?), please look at this and tell me if it's all crap. Inquiring minds want to know. I want to know.
Collider
- A guy I know started Collider recently, a website about
the popular arts. Movies, DVDs, video games, etc. Ain't it
cool? Wait, can I say that? My lawyers say no. Good for me I
don't pay 'em. Because they're not real.
Update! I'm now a contributor to Collider for
DVD and video game reviews. The good news is that I get games and movies
for free. The bad news is that sometimes I have to play games like The
Matrix: Path of Neo, and Crime
Life: Gang Wars.
NOW Casting - A year ago, I didn't think much of Now Casting. Since then they have grown into a formidable presence in the online Hollywood world. I'm impressed with the services they offer and the projects and shows that cast there. And all for just $39.95. At Clive Dinky's, home of the full splinter, no woody, tropical dream vacation and spa salon. Nobody gets that reference? Fine. Seriously, though, you get a lot of stuff for ten bucks a month.
The End of the World - This is just pure funny. Well, 99.44% pure. The rest is lost in the translation from the original Swahili. I've watched this thing several times and it keeps getting funnier every single time I see it. Kind of like "The Exorcist". Give it a go, see what you think.
Mr. Picassohead - I think it's actually been a while since I put a link here that I'm really excited about. I got turned on to Mr. Picassohead from Wil Wheaton Dot Net, naturally, and submitted one or two of my own creations. It's fun. But it's even more interesting to click through some of these amazing little works of art that people who have way too much time on their hands are creating. I especially love this one. (Update: and this one)
LA Casting - Another actors resource. I don't know how good they are, since I've only just signed up, but I like the fact that it can be accessed by Casting Directors and Agents and Managers looking to represent people. It seems a little more confusing interface than other casting sites, but it has an impressive list of calls. Word on the street is that this used to be for Agents and their represented talent and Casting Directors only. That and the fact that you have to go down to their office and register personally bodes well for me, I think.
Actor's Access - So far, the best online casting resource I've found. This is from the point of view of an actor who is not union and has no representation. One flaw - not enough of the breakdowns can be submitted on electronically. But registration is free, and electronic submissions are included with a Showfax membership. I'll put my two cents in on some other actor's resource sites in future posts.
Backstage West - The local Actors' newspaper. It has articles and stuff. But people buy it for the Audition notices.
Intuit Tax Freedom Project - If you're like me, you haven't done your taxes yet. Also if you're like me, you don't make enough money to count. For people like you and like me, there's the Tax Freedom page. Do you taxes here for free (or for very little) and it's all automatic. If you're like me, you like free. If you like me, send me a card now and then, maybe call, you know? I have feelings, too.
Keith Hampton - In case you didn't see it on my friends page, Keith is a musician/singer working in the Boston area. He recently released his first solo CD, which is fabulous. And I don't use the word fabulous often, folks. There's just something about it. I think it's because Big Gay Al says it a lot, and he's not one of my role models. But Keith is. Seriously, buy his CD. You won't regret it.
Apple Trailers - Great gobs of gleaming Jesus Christ. I can't believe I haven't put a link here for Apple's Movie Trailers page. I go there more often than all the time. Well, a little less than that. This the first place to go if you want to see new movie trailers. But, you already knew that, didn't you. Didn't you?!?
Slashdot - You see, the thing about Slashdot is that if you're the type of person who likes this kind of nerdy thing, you probably already go there. And if you don't already go there, you probably won't care for it. Like, you know, whatever. Wil Wheaton likes it. But then you know he's a huge nerd. I keep not bookmarking it when I go, and I always type in www.slashdot.com, when it's www.slashdot.ORG. I'm so stupid. Don't grow up like me, kids. Get to know your orgs and coms now, while you still have a chance to make a difference in your lives.
Rotten.com - Um... I never go here. You shouldn't either, unless, you know, you feel like vomiting. They occasionally have something funny to look at, like a naked woman painted like a dollar bill, but mostly it's pretty grisly. Hey, maybe it's your kind of thing? In any case, it's a unique spot on the net.
Monster.com - This is for Janelle, who just lost her job. And for anyone looking for a job. I was never successful finding anything here, but that doesn't mean that you won't. Um, yeah...
Wil Wheaton dot net - You remember the kid from Stand By Me, the one that got a leech on his peepee? Yeah, that's it. Wesley Crusher. Well, he was in Flubber, too, if you didn't know. His site is actually intriguing. If you thought he was just a cute child star that turned into a stuck-up wash-up, check this out. He designed the site himself, which is moderately impressive, and it's almost always interesting to read about his not-so-washed-up life.
Netflix - Well, after several months of successful rentals, I'm going to tell you that I'm thrilled with Netflix. I'm so enthusiastic about this service, which lets you rent DVDs online with no late fees and no shipping charges, that people think I work for them. For the record, I don't. They should have a referral program, though.
Kryptonsite - Smallville is currently my favorite show on network TV, and Kryptonsite is the best source for info on it. It's run by a fan, who has done an exceptional job at researching the show. So good in fact, that the WB should work on getting him a job in Frog-land. No, no, not France.
Penny Arcade - a web comic that as far as I can tell has no equal. A must-see for computer gamers. Mild language. And by mild I mean harsh.
Band Names Page - Now, this page is actually much more than a band names page, but since I already have it linked from the friends page, I wanted to focus on this aspect of it. It is the Band Names section that I believe to be the best part of Mike's work, and I'm proud to be a contributor.
HowStuffWorks.com -
Want to know how something works?
Everything from the internet to human sexuality, though to some the two things
are one and the same.
Update: I used to go here every day, but the format changed and I stopped
for a while. I checked back, and it's returned to a state of cool, but I'm
out of the habit. Sorry guys. It remains a must for educators and
people who like book learnin'.
The Internet Movie Database - If you need to know anything about movies, go here. It won me five bucks once when I had a bet as to what was used for blood in the Shower Scene in "Psycho." It was chocolate syrup.
The Onion - Ever laugh at your local newspaper? These guys make it funny on purpose. Sample Headline: "Bill Gates Grants Self 18 Dexterity, 20 Charisma" Um... it's a Dungeons and Dragons reference. Or how about this one? "Mr. T To Pity Fool"
SETI@home -
Using the power of the internet to help detect extraterrestrials. Them's
be aliens. It's really quite fascinating, and I've been a member since April
2000. There is a similar program out there attempting to find a cure for
cancer.
Update - I just passed 3900 work units.
Anyone out there think they can catch me?
